The FinTech industry is growing at a huge pace, creating new opportunities and utilising new technologies at an almost unprecedented pace.

“Historically, London has always been important for financial services.”

Luis Carranza, founder of London FinTech Week and a leading light in the industry is very positive about the future: “We are seeing the FinTech industry developing and sprawling in many directions, including InsureTech, WealthTech and PropertyTech,” he says. “Depending on the niche, we are seeing solid growth projections. It’s growing and expanding on all sides.”

This year sees the fourth edition of FinTech week with conferences, exhibitions, workshops, hackathons, meet-ups and parties. There are 600-1,000 conference delegates per day from over 50 countries and 3,000-5,000 participants in events throughout the week. While it is a completely international event, Carranza believes that London provides the ideal hub for the industry.

“Historically, London has always been important for financial services. In London, there is a great tradition of innovation: for example, equity crowdfunding was legal here before it was in the United States. Companies are validated by being regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, which breeds confidence in investors, while you see huge importance in industries such as ledger technology.”
